Baba Harbhajan Singh
About Baba Harbhajan Singh
Baba Harbhajan Singh was a soldier of the Indian Army, posted along the treacherous heights of the Indo-China border in Sikkim. In 1968, he tragically lost his life in an accident while on duty. Yet, his story did not end there. Over the decades, soldiers have come to believe that his spirit still patrols the icy frontier, warning of impending dangers and safeguarding his comrades from harm. So revered is his legend that a shrine—known as Baba Mandir—was built in his honour, and even today, army convoys leave an empty chair in their ranks for the “guardian of the border” who continues his watch, beyond life itself.
