Pawan Jallad

About Pawan Jallad

Pawan Jallad, India’s most well-known hangman in recent times, carries a legacy that spans four generations. He is the great-grandson of Kallu Jallad, the famed executioner who hanged notorious criminals Ranga and Billa, as well as the two assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Following in his family’s grim profession, Pawan became a part of history in 2020 when he executed the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape-murder case — an act that closed one of India’s most harrowing chapters of crime and justice. From colonial-era gallows to modern judicial executions, the Jallad family’s name has remained intertwined with the final act of the law.
